Eurovision 2007

It's never easy to pick the Eurovision winner. Will it be this writhing chanteuse in two strips of gauze, or that freaky-themed group of unnaturally tan boys from Norway? Lordi can't enter every year, lest we face the arockalypse.

But I do b'lieve I've found my favorite for 2007. (Edited to add a caveat: Dracula is "dangerous like Tupac." Don't say you weren't warned.)

The night I arrived in Berlin, my hubby* said, you arrived just in time, guess what's on tonight? The Eurovision finals. We winced and groaned through the whole thing, especially at the Eurovision fan in the fairytale princess pink outfit who had her dream come true and was able to host, and loved every campy moment. The reporting of the votes at the end when individual countries can say the like of "London calling" and get a few laughs, can be priceless. One guy awarded some points to Serbia, making a crack about giving the points to Kelly Osbourne. Marija Serifovic does have an uncanny resemblance to K.O. I had pegged her as a future K.D. Lang.

Even though Eurovision is broadcast in English, the German broadcast had a male voiceover/translator who offered scintillating commentary like "Unglaublich!"

Lordi did steal the show. You did choose a fine favorite for this year though. Alas, no were-birds.

(*this name is a joke, see comment in previous post)

The US really gets ripped off in that we cannot see the Eurovision shows without resorting to teh intarwebs.

I adored the Lordi performance last year. The little flag hats on top of the scowly latex monster faces just made my day.

Lordi is making a movie. They also have a theme restaurant. Field trip?

Due to the vagaries of how the comments decide to present themselves, the last letter in the link above sometimes looks like an 'n', which would be incorrect, and sometimes like an 'm.'

.stm, folks, .stm

It's worth it for the reindeer sausage named "Rudolph's Last Journey."
